Joao Felix Loan To Chelsea Imminent...

Updated: Jan 10, 2023

Joao Felix appears to be on his way to Chelsea!

According to recent reports, the Premier League club has reached a verbal agreement with Atletico Madrid to loan the young Portuguese forward. While the contract has not yet been signed, Chelsea is expected to pay a fee of around €11 million (approximately £9.68 million) to secure Felix's services.

This fee appears to be lower than what Atletico Madrid had initially requested, and it appears to have piqued the interest of other top clubs such as Manchester United and Arsenal. Felix, on the other hand, appears to be dead set on joining Chelsea and being a part of their project.

Last month, Atletico CEO Miguel Angel Gil Marin appeared resigned to letting Felix go.

"The reasonable thing to think is that he (Joao Felix) will leave," he told TVE. "While I would love for him to stay, that is not the player's idea."

Felix has shown flashes of form for Atletico this season, but both he and the team have struggled for consistency.

What will Chelsea gain from Joao Felix?

Visual analysis from smarterscout

A fit and firing Felix would bring a lot to Chelsea, as the Portugal international remains one of the most talented players in the world if he can get out of the rut he's found himself in at Atletico Madrid.

Felix sees himself as a goal-scoring number 10 — his childhood idol was Kaka, and he possesses a similar ability to create from deeper areas while also getting closer to goal and finishing.

He excels at carrying the ball forward, spotting passes in tight spaces, and getting on the end of crosses.

Joao Felix Sorare Scoring

As we can see from his chart on Soraredata - Joao has never quite lived up to the hype, but his struggles at Atletico could be to blame for much of his miserable experience since moving from Benfica. A starring role in a Chelsea attack that is struggling for creativity could see a huge improvement in performance.
